Are You wondering why our hat models have names like Fitz Roy, Rainier
, and Denali? There's a deeper meaning behind these names that reflects the essence of our brand and the experience we want to provide to our customers.
What's in a name?
When we put our hats into some resembling categories it became evident that not all hats could be named by classical- Fedora/ Gamblero/ Diamond shape, so we decided to put them into categories and to name them in honor of some of the best mountains in the world. Each hat model represents a different mountain, and by wearing our hats, you can carry a piece of that mountain's spirit with you. So instead of calling our hat Diamond Shaped crown with a wide curled brim- we say- Triglav Hat, with it's rocky edges and peaks. Instead of saying- Round crown medium brim hat - we use Fuji Hat, in this sense representing the roundness of the hat and serenity of the world famous Japanese mountain. All of these names and associations are purely products of our imagination, and does not consists with some other hat-maker's communities accepted definitions, neither they represent the mountain to it's fullest extent. But we like it - So for example the hat with a flat crown and a wide straight brim is named- Kilimanjaro, as it is the high and rather flat mountain starting from a relatively flat ground.
Mountains as symbols of strength and resilience
I am myself a mountain enthusiast with climbs on Triglav, Kazbegi, Alaskan mountain ranges, Albanian Mountain passings, and overall being in the presence of mountains have been the place I have been striving to be. So naming the hats after mountains seemed like a very easy direction. And at the same time mountains represent our journey. We started Straumbergs as a complete bootstrap company out of our kitchen, and learing the craft ourselves and growing slowly and with trial and errors. But for me it is the same as climbing the mountain- it is slow and it is a fight. The mountain won't move, You need to change something inside of You if you want to conquer it.
That's why we feel that our customers are interconnected with this love for a slow- craft, of durability, of over coming their own mountains, and coming out stronger. .
So, the next time you put on your favorite hat, take a moment to appreciate the mountain it's named after. Feel the sense of wonder and possibility that mountains represent, and let it inspire you to conquer new horizons.
